Elena Kalman, AIA, believes in having full creative control over built environment and prefers working on every project from concept and zoning analyses to picking plants for reception desk.
In this project she integrated the architectural, interior and landscape designs, as well as, interior art installations to achieve a coherent visual expression reflecting the looming presence of the nearby East River.
The building is set back from the corner of Kent Avenue along North Fourth Street and features an undulating wave-like, glass facade and balconies that take full advantage of the magnificent water view and Manhattan skyline.
The interior of the lobby is dominated by a three-story art installation, entitled, “The Brooklyn Wave,” created by Elena Kalman and artist, Susan Hoffman Fishman. The installation is a permanent version of Kalman and Fishman’s on-going public art project, The Wave, www.make-a-wave.org.
Building amenities include: an indoor pool, a spa, community rooms, a children’s play room, a gym and roof terraces with water features, landscaping, cabanas and play areas.
