ARCHITECTURE is one kind of art that you do not choose to experience.

We live, work, and play surrounded by built environment. Consciously or unconsciously, we are influenced by buildings and structures around us. Architect Elena Kalman’s designs are as harmonious with nature and urban context as are her relationships with the clients.

MULTI-STOREY RESIDENTIAL

Office of Elena Kalman Architect has designed many multi-story apartment and condominium buildings in New York City. These buildings present a different kind of challenge from single family residential projects: each needs to be a “bestseller,” attracting residents from a targeted demographic and garnering media attention. The architect needs to strike a delicate balance between bold innovation and wide appeal. Our success in being both cutting-edge and popular is evidenced by our multi-year, multi-project relationships with many commercial clients.

PRIVATE RESIDENCES

Elena Kalman, AIA started her architectural practice in 1989 with a focus on residential design, which remains her favorite architectural form. Residential architecture, more than any other kind, is about collaborating with clients, listening to them and understanding what kind of house would be a true home for them.

RELIGIOUS ARCHITECTURE

Every architect dreams about designing a building with a “soul” or a spiritual mission. Such projects enable Elena Kalman, AIA to do her most challenging and gratifying work.

Historic Preservation

Kalman’s projects include many notable historic structures. Some buildings are expanded, and the interiors are remodeled to fit the new functions, but the historic details are preserved and restored in accordance with The Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties.

Kalman is passionate about preserving the historic heritage of the city where she resides for over thirty years and was honored to serve as a member of Stamford Historic Preservation Advisory Committee from 2017 through 2024. She is a member of Stamford Neighborhood Historic Preservation Association.

Affordable Housing

Approximately thirty years ago, Kalman began her long-standing association with Pacific House, Inc. (formerly known as Shelter for the Homeless, Inc.). Throughout these decades, she has been privileged to collaborate with the remarkable team at Pacific House on numerous projects, taking immense pride in contributing to the noble mission of providing housing for those in need. Her dedication to this cause underscores her commitment to leveraging her architectural expertise for the betterment of society.
