The Breakers is a new building complex consisting of seventy-five residential units with a number of different configurations: some of the larger units are single-family townhouses at the water’s edge; others are two-family townhouses. Smaller units are situated in an apartment building with interior corridors. The development complex is laid out along a new street, widening towards the water so that every unit has a view of the bay. Amenities include a courtyard with a pool and green area for play, picnics and relaxation, and an open waterfront boardwalk connected to boat slips.

The sculptural configurations of the buildings with their white stucco facades, large windows, and abundance of balconies and roof terraces make the structures reminiscent of Mediterranean villas.

Riverfront

Adjacent to the Bridgefront project, this project is a former industrial building that has been converted into residential lofts. Within the lobby are two art installations: (1) a stone bench designed in the shape of a ripple, suggesting the nearby East River; and (2) a framed section of the original brick, interior wall that maintains the worn look of the bricks and is lit in the fashion of a framed painting.

Bridgefront

Elena Kalman, AIA, designed The Bridgefront to function effectively on a very small site located between two renovated former factories in the DUMBO section of Brooklyn.

Park Slope Terrace

The Park Slope Terrace project is located on a street with traditional 19th century Brooklyn townhouses. For security reasons, the client requested a single corridor building, but the design of the façade with its vertical bays, creates the illusion of several smaller-scale structures that nicely fit into the neighborhood.
